About

UTCM Research and Education Centre:
Academy

In addition to our work as a treatment facility, UTCM also conducts research and education through our on-premise facility.

UTCM educates and trains professional acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners. UTCM regularly offers lectures and free clinics to practitioners and the public at large.

Though we rely heavily on the wisdom passed down to us from the ancient masters of Chinese medicine principles, the staff at UTCM make it our mission to give back to our industry by contributing new knowledge to help improve the health and well-being of our fellow man and advance the use of Chinese medicine techniques worldwide.

UTCM Education Programs Trains the Next Generation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners

UTCM Research & Education Centre teaches various Traditional Chinese Medicine and healing methods. Our classes typically revolve around three aspects:

  • Reason

The professors at UTCM strive to help their students develop their critical thinking skills. Through emphasizing the importance of reason in clinical work, our students learn how to apply both classical and innovative Chinese Medicine techniques to achieve a desired outcome. Our emphasis lies on equipping our students to understand the principles and mechanisms of formulas, meridian selection, acupoint selection, and acupuncture.

  • Diagnosis

To arrive at the correct diagnosis, students must first learn to be excellent observers. We at UTCM teach our students the critical things to look for when working with a patient. This set of observational criteria enables them to arrive at correct diagnoses and formulate a proper mode of treatment.

  • Clinical Skills

At UTCM, we prioritize equipping each of our students with an advanced set of Chinese Medicine practices based on the most up to date techniques and principles. We take seriously the role of cultivating our students’ abilities in a wide variety of clinical situations to produce well-rounded and knowledgeable practitioners.

UTCM employs a wide array of educational methods to help our students learn including traditional classroom teaching, clinical practice, and participation in scientific research. In addition to this, we also offer clinic internship opportunities where our students can gain practical experience as apprentices working directly under the leadership of our expert professors.

Learning Outcomes For Our Students

UTCM makes it our goal to provide our students with the opportunity to realize the following:

  • Increase in experience, skills, and technique
  • Effectively diagnose patient problems
  • Apply techniques to provide relief from health challenges facing their patients
  • Adapt treatment plans to adequately address unusual problems resistant to more commonly used protocols
  • Thrive in an environment in which students can comfortably ask questions and seek answers
  • Enjoy opportunities for internships and apprenticeships to reinforce clinical experience

Incorporation of Research at the Heart of Our Education Programs

In addition to research activities led by Dr. RG Li and other experienced TCM practitioners, participation in scientific research by students in our academy is a critical component of the UTCM education program.  With ongoing efforts being made to modernize Chinese Medicine techniques, we feel it is vital for each of our students to have experience working in a research facility. Our program ensures that our students have a thorough understanding of key laboratory techniques such as the use of modern scientific records, statistics, and double-blind experiments to verify the effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Involvement in scientific research allows students to broaden their skill set by learning to establish good data recording habits, building databases for use by themselves and their peers, and enriching the opportunity for them and their colleagues to participate in the development of innovative techniques to effectively treat disease. These efforts play an important role in helping advance the use of Chinese Medicine to treat health ailments on a global scale.
